Box Score Grand Rapids, Mich -- Grand Rapids Community College's women's volleyball team drops to third in the MCCAA West after suffering their second straight conference loss to Kalamazoo Valley Community College Monday night, 1-3.
The loss leaves GRCC with a conference record of 8-2 while 22-5 overall while Kalamazoo Valley's Cougars improve to 9-2 in league play and rise to #2 in the MCCAA West. The last conference loss GRCC was dealt at home came on October 15, 2009 when GRCC lost to KVCC 2-3. The game also marks the end of a home game win streak the GRCC had held since their last home loss on October 1, 2011 to Owens Community College.
With back to back losses on their schedule--one coming by way of an unranked KVCC squad--will likely impact next week's NJCAA DII Poll where GRCC is currently ranked 7th.
The defending National Champion Raiders struggled offensively on the court last night with a .146 team hitting percentage.
Emily Johnson and
Tayler Friend led GRCC in kills combining for 20 total.
Taylor Gates led her team in assists and digs with 35 and 18.
The Raider hope to rebound from Monday night's performance tonight hosting Jackson College at 6:30 PM. Jackson's Jets hold the fourth place in the MCCAA West with a 5-6 conference record.
