Grand Rapids, MI – GRCC’s basketball teams are heading south to face the Red Hawks of Lake Michigan Community College with games tonight starting at 5:30 and 7:30PM in Benton Harbor, MI.
GRCC’s Lady Raiders enter the night’s contest 3-4 in conference play and 5-11 overall following two consecutive losses against Lansing and Jackson Community Colleges.
Tonight’s contest will be a true test for GRCC as this Lake Michigan team boasts a 6-1 MCCAA record and hold the #8 position in the NJCAA Division II polls.
The Red Hawks are averaging 75.2 points per game and are led by sophomore guard Breana Rivoli-Johnson who averages 21.7 points per game—the eighth highest in Division II—with a 54.9 field goal percentage.
The Raider’s men’s team appears to stack up against their Red Hawk opponents slightly more easily than the Raider’s women’s team. Lake Michigan’s men’s team is unranked, 2-5 in MCCAA play, at an even 8-8 overall and currently on a four game slide with losses to Ancilla, Jackson, Lansing and Kalamazoo Valley.
The Red Hawks are led by freshman forward Melvin Brown. Brown accounts for 14.8 points and just under 10 rebounds per game.
GRCC’s squads are both within one game of hitting the .500 mark. Wins today would give each the opportunity to move above .500 in front of a home crowd against Kalamazoo Valley this Friday.
