Grand Rapids, MI—Both the men and women have pieced together 2 game winning streaks after defeating the Chargers of Ancilla College on Friday night. The women opened up the evening with a 71-46 blowout, and the men earned a hard fought 71-55 victory.

The women appear to be rejuvenated after a long Christmas break. The lady Raiders have now won 2 straight games and 3 of their last 4.

Stephanie Stevens continued to be an offensive force, going 11-24 on the night. Stevens capped a 28 point night with 8 boards and 6 steals.

Stevens had a strong supporting cast, most notably teammate Meghan Mitchell. With 2 blocks and 2 steals, she continues to frustrate opposing team’s offenses, while remaining an offensive threat. Her 11 assists were a team high.

The men took the court immediately following.

GRCC battled the Chargers back and forth, trading between leads. The Raiders struggled to find the bottom of the net early on, but the usual suspects proved to be clutch yet again. With time winding down, Deontae Hudson went on a tear, hitting 3 straight buckets to put the Raiders up by 10. The frustrated chargers couldn’t recover, despite their strong early efforts.

Alex Mustert had another big night from the post, putting up a team high 21 points. Deontae Hudson added another 19, with another 11 put up by Daryl White.

Although their statistics do not reflect the impressiveness of their play, both Phillip Hansen and Willie Duke were solid in the winning effort, and appear to be poised for a break out campaign.

Both squads will take the court next when they travel to Jackson Community College. The Raiders head to Jackson, Michigan on Wednesday. The teams, although playing at what appears to be peak performance, will certainly have their hands full.

Although Jackson’s men’s team is struggling early on in the season, the Raiders are having trouble on the road. All 4 teams that the guys have suffered this season have come on the road.

The women will take on a team that is known for exhausting opponents. Although the Jackson women’s squad are 9-8 on the season, their constant pressing will no doubt be one of the Raiders biggest challenges of the season.
