Raiders prep for weekend

Grand Rapids, MI—Although most can’t wait for Friday, the Raiders are certainly a bit less than thrilled heading into the weekend. The #9 ranked GRCC Raiders have two extremely tough matches set for Friday afternoon when they’ll take part in the Owen’s Express Invitational.

The first match of the day will see the Raiders take on the Kougars of Kishwaukee College.

The Kougars have struggled a bit early in the season, and currently boast a less than stellar 1-3 record. Despite the early season hardship, Kishwaukee remains one of the top teams in the nation. The girls were ranked at #3 in the nation in the NJCAA DII’s preliminary polling.

The Kougars trio of losses have all come against other extremely talented teams. Kishwaukee dropped early season matches to #13 ranked MCC-Longview, #8 ranked Johnson County Community College and the top rated Cowley County Community College.

The Raiders will do battle with #7 ranked Parkland College in their second match of the day. The Cobras have earned a 3-2 record thus far in the 2012 season, and will no doubt be a tough opponent.

With momentum building early in the season for Grand Rapids Community College, the ladies will need to continue their stellar play. Another pair of victories over early season favorites could see the Raiders climb in the polls drastically.

GRCC went undefeated during Lansing Community College’s Tournament of the Stars last weekend and are currently sporting a perfect 4-0 record.
