Grand Rapids, MI—GRCC earned another pair of victories on Tuesday afternoon when they breezed past the Indians of Lake Michigan College. The Raiders hosted LMC in an early afternoon double header, and earned 5-0 victory followed by a 4-2 victory to put them at 30-21 on the season.

Jared Theissen got on base with a single in the bottom of the first, and Brendan Bender drove him in to score the Raiders first run of the day. The run would prove to be all that Theissen and company needed to earn the victory.

Brendan Bender pitched all 7 innings of the game and held the Indians to only 3 hits. Brenden had 6 strikeouts during play, and earned his 6th win of the season.

Steve Ayala and Bender paced their squad with a pair of RBI’s apiece. Seven of the Raiders batters earned at least one hit during the game.

The second round of the double header saw Lake Michigan come out of the gates a bit harder. The Indians got on the board with 2 early runs in the top of the first, and held the lead until the 6th inning.

GRCC’s defensive play was stellar during the second game, and after the initial pair of runs that LMC earned, the Raiders stymied their offense, allowing only 3 hits during the rest of play.

Balgaard stepped in for pinch running duties in the 6th inning and scored on a Drew Orlowski single. With the bases loaded Brendan Benderr drove in the 3rd and 4th runs of the game to seal the victory.

The Raiders take the field next on Saturday when they host conference rival Delta College. The guys will be looking to earn a top seed in the upcoming regional tournament that will be held in Battle Creek.
