Box Score
Battle Creek, MI—Two determined teams stepped onto the field at Bailey Park today, both teams duked it out, with Kellogg eventually squeaking by for a 1-0 win. The two teams put on a fielding clinic, and combined for only 9 hits during the game.
The second round of the Region XII playoffs featured two teams that were very familiar with each other. Kellogg lost 3 times to GRCC during the regular season, but were able to earn a crucial victory over GRCC. The Bruins got on the board with a Kody Carson homerun in the second inning, and were able to hold the lead through the rest of play.
Anthony Alarcon saw the bulk of the action for his squad, and pitched 7.1 innings before reliever Eric Musselman stepped in to close out play. Alarcon faced 29 batters and allowed 5 hits. Musselman hurled 3 strikeouts in his 1.2 innings pitched.
The Raiders were forced to immediately shrug off the loss, with their next game starting at 4:30. Though they have now been delegated to the losers bracket, the team has a chance to battle their way out, a feat they accomplished last season when they eventually lost to Region XII champs Muskegon CC.
The guys will face off against the Vikings of Glen Oaks Community College, a team they dealt a pair of 6-2 losses to earlier in the season. In this double elimination tournament, a win will be vital to keep their postseason alive.
