Softball's streak ends in Kalamazoo

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Grand Rapids, MI -- The Raiders 14 game win streak came to an abrupt end as the Raiders dropped 5 straight games this past weekend to tough MCCAA opponents.

While the Raider’s bats were certainly chilled as Michigan's more typical spring weather finally arrived, their competitors' pitchers were heating up.

The Raiders first faced Cougars of Kalamazoo Valley Community College who entered the double headers against GRCC with a 10-5 record and a previous ranking of 19th in the nation.

The Cougars held the Raiders to five hits in two games while their own batters went on a rampage.  By the end of the day the Cougars racked up 17 hits and 15 runs improving to 12-5 and doling out the Raiders first pair of losses in over a month.

Despite the tough losses, the Raiders dug in to face an equally challenging Muskegon Community College on the road.

Muskegon’s Jayhawks, ranked 13th in NJCAA DII, proved to too much for the Raiders and quite worthy of their rank as they bested the Raiders in both contests; 8-3 & 8-0.

Down but not out, the Raiders dug in for their sixth game in three days as they hit the road again to face the Bruins of Kellogg Community College.

While the Bruins managed to take the first game of the double header from the Raiders winning 2-0, the Raiders showed tremendous grit and brought an end to a five game losing streak as they left Battle Creek, MI 1-1 against Kellogg, defeating them in the second game 5-3.  Chelsea Hutchison hit 2 home runs in the game and had 4 RBI.

Tuesday April 10 at 3:00 PM, GRCC’s Raiders visit the NJCAA's 9th ranked Express of Owens Community College who have posted a 15-1 record this season.

However road weary, the Raiders will have had a couple days of rest and do have a team of athletes hungry to get back on a roll.  Expect the Raiders to to rekindle their fire and give the Express all they can handle.
