Glen Oaks Vikings invade GRCC Tonight

Grand Rapids, MI – GRCC’s basketball teams hit the court again tonight to face Glen Oaks Community College.  The Raiders were slated to face the Vikings on the 13th, but the game was cancelled due to inclement weather.

GRCC’s men’s team will take to the court now 5-0 in conference play and 10-5 overall after a 96-85 win over Ancilla College where Jared Mysliwiec unleashed 33 points with 24 coming in the first half.  Mysliwiec is averaging 15 points per game since hitting the floor in January.

Thus far the Raiders have been led in scoring by sophomore Alex Lyle who is averaging 17 points per game and freshman Micah Gates who averages 12.  Jimmy Carroll, Jr. leads in assists with 5.6 per game and T.J. McCutcheon is currently leading the team in steals with 3 per game.

The Raiders have also seen some outstanding play in the post between Arik Hesselink and Gates.  Together the two account for 17 rebounds per game.

Glen Oaks’s men’s team is 10-9 overall and 3-2 in the MCCAA led by sophomore gaurd Karvel Anderson.  Anderson leads the Vikings with 22.5 points per game.  Alandis Milligan also makes the honor roll for the Vikings averaging 9 points and 8 rebounds this season

The GRCC’s women’s team is also taking to the court on a wining streak defeating Ancilla College 83-49 leaving them 7-7 overall and 2-3 in the MCCAA.  Janele Johnson-Ellis led the Raiders in scoring with 22 points.  Tatiyana Walker finished the contest with 10 rebounds and 8 points, and Destiney Robinson added 11 points to help seal the win for the Raiders.

Johnon-Ellis’ scoring has been key for the Raiders this season.  She is averaging 17 points and 5 rebounds per game.

Destiny Robinson is the second leading scorer for the Raiders with 11 points per game.  Kristina Cousins leads in assists with 4 per game.   Down low Tatiyana Walker is leading the team in rebounds averaging 6 per game.

Glen Oaks’ women’s team will start the contest on a two game win streak.  Now 1-4 in the MCCAA and 4-14 overall, the Vikings will be fighting hard for the win.  Glen Oaks’ leading scorer this season is freshman Julia Wiesemann.  Wiesemann averages 11 points per game with 4 assists.

The women’s game starts at 5:30PM with the men’s to follow at 7:30 PM at home at Hunsburger Arena inside the Ford Fieldhouse.
