Toledo, OH—GRCC’s Raider Volleyball teams upset #1 nationally ranked Johnson County Community College and NJCAA Division I John A. Logan College during the first day of the Owens Invitational.  In the Raiders first match against Johnson CC, the Raider won in five sets—19-25, 26-24, 25-21, 20-25, 15-8. The young Raider team, 3-0 prior to the start of the Owens Invitational, walked away with a huge win. Head Coach Chip Will stated that both the outstanding defense of Amanda Fleener and Alexis Rutter and the efforts of Kaitlyn Wolters were a major factor in their win.

In their second match of the day against John A. Logan College the Raiders kept on rolling defeating the Volunteers in five; 23-25,25-13,25-27,25-17,15-12. “This team showed tremendous heart and composure today,” said Will. The Raiders hope to maintain their momentum tomorrow as they enter the second day of the tournament facing Illinois Central College, Parkland College and Oakland Community College.
