Battle Creek, MI - After posting a 22-7 in conference record and qualifying for the post season the Raiders have found themselves entering the Loser's Bracket of the 2011 NJCAA Region XII tournament in Battle Creek. They were defeated 2-1 in the first round of play by the Cuyahoga CC Challengers. Strong pitching and fielding limited both teams to 5 hits each during the game. Cuyahoga scored twice in the second inning on a Chet Lauer double, while Grand Rapids lone run came in the fourth inning when
Jo Woo scored on a
Steve Hazel double to left field.
Anthony Alarcon pitched all 6 innings for Grand Rapids and posted 5 strike outs and only 1 earned run. The Raiders, however, were unable to solve Cuyahoga pitcher Ryan Bores who had a stellar 9 strike outs and earned the win.
The Raiders will face off against the top seeded Glen Oaks in the first round of the Loser's Bracket today at 4 PM. The game will be held on Nichols Field at Morrison Park.
