Volleyball wins MCCAA Western Conference Championship

Grand Rapids, MI--GRCC's Raider volleyball team earned a share of the MCCAA Western Conference Championship after a 3-0 win over Jackson Community College (25-18, 25-14, 25-16).  With the win, the Raiders have completed their regular season with a 25-5 record, 13-1 in conference play, and ranked 14th in the NJCAA Division II poll.

The win tonight was in the fashion of many Raider victories this season--excellent team play wuth stellar defense.  The Raider defense kept Jackson off balance giving the Raiders a decided advantage.

The Raiders started slow in the match trailing 10-2 in the first set before taking their first lead at 15-14.  With the momentum in their favor the Raiders ended up winning the match on a 11-4 run.

GRCC finished the match with 33 kills with only 9 attack errors.  Leading the Raiders in kills was Nicole Czehowski with 8.  Kelsey Darling and Molly Maynard conrtibuted six each while Hannah Geelhoed had 5 of her own with two blocks.  Leading the Raiders in assists was Kaitlyn Wolters with 33.  Wolters also snuck in 3 kills.

In addition to earning a share of the MCCAA Western Conference Championship, the win also gives the Raiders the #1 seed in the upcoming NJCAA Region XII Tournament which kicks off Friday November 4th at GRCC's Hunsburger Arena in the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse.
