Grand Rapids, MI—The Raiders volleyball team will host a pregame cookout this Tuesday, and will be facing off against the Muskegon CC Jayhawks at 6:30PM. The team will wear special pink uniforms to promote cancer awareness.
All fans and supporters who are planning to attend are encouraged to wear pink as well. The team will be accepting donations, which will be donated to the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
Tuesday afternoon will begin with hamburgers and hot dogs being served between the Fieldhouse and the Calkins Science Center. Those who plan to attend the game are invited to come out at 5PM to join in on the fun.
GRCC should have their hands full in an exciting match that will determine who is crowned the MCCAA Western Conference Champion. Muskegon has dealt GRCC their only conference loss of the season, and the Raiders will be looking for vengeance. Muskegon currently sits in the number 10 spot in the national rankings, and are led by Ashley Hulbert who has posted 527 kills. The team has earned a 26-8 overall record, including a perfect 11-0 conference record. The Jayhawks are on a 2 game winning streak.
After winning the last 6 matches, the Raiders are confident they can get the W on Thursday, and will rely on continuing contribution from everyone on the team. Nicole Czehowski leads the team with 193 kills, with Molly Maynard closely trailing with 177. Maynard has been a defensive force all season, and has been credited with 71 blocks. Teammate Alexis Rutter has been extremely impressive during her 2011 campaign, and has posted a team best of 223 digs. The teams will face off at 6:30 PM on Tuesday at the Ford Fieldhouse.
