Ashley Laux hails from Houghton, MI and is a sophomore cross country runner for the Raiders. Ashley has been a key component of the team that is in its first season of competition. Laux along with her teammates have consistently improved their personal best times this fall. Most recently, Ashley ran her season best time of 21:47, a 20-second season best that finished her in 90th place (of 181 runners).

We have asked Ashley a series of questions in the hopes to get to know her more as an athlete and person.

Tell us about your favorite sports memory?	Finding a family in my cross country team as the new kid in school.
Who did you look up to growing up and why?	I looked up to my mom growing up. She's always right.
Do you have any hobbies or special talents? If so, what are they and how did you get interested/learn the hobby or talent?	Despite the biting cold of U.P. winters, I really enjoy cross country and downhill skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and skating. My mom inspired my love of traveling, taking us on cross country road trips every summer growing up. I enjoy kayaking, boating,finding waterfalls, camping and hiking during the summer.
What area of study are you interested in as you continue on to a four year institution?	I am interested in pursuing an English degree with a  concentration in Secondary Education.
What has been your biggest challenge you've had to overcome to get where you are today?	The biggest challenge I've had to overcome was reaching the realization that nobody else was going to get me where I wanted to be, that it was my responsibility to make it work, in running and in life.
What is your plan for after GRCC? Where do you plan to transfer? Do you plan on continuing your athletic career? etc.	I'm looking to transfer to Missouri State University and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can continue racing.

Who is your favorite athlete?	I don't have a favorite athlete - is that weird?
